Johnnie Jane Heard Brown, 90, of McMinnville, died Thursday, Sept. 28, at Saint Thomas River Park Hospital.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and good friend, she was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Grundy County, was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women Organization. She graduated with a BS degree in pharmacy from Samford University (formerly Howard College), was a member of Lamba Kappa Sigma Society, and previously worked for Crouch Drugs and Templeton Drug Store prior to joining the staff of River Park Hospital as the first head of the Pharmacy Department for some 20-plus years. She received the Frist Award from River Park Hospital, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the American Legion. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W.T. “Bill” Brown, parents, Homer and Veolia Goforth Heard, and brother Homer D. “Bud” Heard.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Douglas L. “Rusty” Brown and wife Tina, and Rev. Randall T. Brown and wife Rachel, granddaughters, Randa Brown and Reesa Brown, and sister-in-law, Jean Webb Heard.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in the historic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. Rev. Tommy Vann will officiate. The Brown family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home and again Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 W.
