John Ogden Melton Jr., 67, a McMinnville resident and Coalmont native, was born Oct. 28, 1953 and died July 7 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was an automotive tech at Walmart, a United States Army veteran, and the son of the late John Ogden and Mildred Haggard Tate Melton Sr.

Mr. Melton is survived by daughter Amanda Bryant of Morrison, son John Melton III, stepchildren, Sarah Vasquez, Cameron Vathe, and Stephan Vathe, grandchildren Danielle, Derek, John Melton IV, and Ethan, sisters Shirley Oldson and Sherry Pearsall, aunt Mary Ellen Ferrell, brother-in-law Bill Prater, and niece Shanna Bodell. Several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at High’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Grace Chapel Cemetery in Grundy County. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
