Joe T. Cantrell Sr., 85, a McMinnville resident and Hamilton County native, was born Oct. 17, 1931 and died Sept. 7 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
He was a veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard, retired butcher with Kroger and grounds keeper with Warren County Memorial Airport, member of Bybee Branch Church of Christ and son of the late Robert Herman and Emma Mae Pennington Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was married March 22, 1953 to Mary Lois Cantrell, who preceded him in death on May 14, 2014. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother, William Eugene Cantrell; and sister, Roberta Thompson.
Survivors include four children and spouses, Teresa and Steve Atnip of Monterey, Regina Kay and Leland Mullican of McMinnville, Pamela Jo and John Green of Sparta and Joe T. “Chip” Cantrell II and Sheila of McMinnville; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Merideth Jones and Chris, Miranda Gillis and Colin, Mary Beth Rollins and Brent, Abby Patterson and Brett, Brett Mullican, Tyler Green, Ethan Green, Thomas Cantrell, Emma Cantrell and Zach Cantrell; six great-grandchildren, Mitchell Jones, Claire Jones, Leah Rollins, Rylie Rollins, Odin Rollins and Collier Gillis; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Wanda Rigsby of McMinnville.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at Bybee Branch Church of Christ with Tony Lawrence, Buddy Reed and Don Griffith to officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at High’s.
