Jimmy B. “J.B.” Grissom, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 10 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born March 21, 1924 in Van Buren County (Rocky River community) to Nancy (Clark) and Ernest T. Grissom. He attended Van Buren County schools and served with the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean War. He married Dorothy Emmalene (Grove) Grissom on Sept. 22, 1956, then permanently made his home in Muncie, Ind., where he was employed at Marhoefer Packing Company and Pepsi-Cola Bottlers before retiring. He enjoyed his annual garden, showing his grandchildren how things “used to be” done and time spent with family. He was a member of Towne Acres Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Tim Crehan of Muncie; granddaughter Jill Crehan of Indianapolis; and grandsons Jordan and Jase Crehan of Muncie; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arzie, H. Clark and Theron Grissom; and four sisters, Elizabeth Hillis, Mattie Land, Maxine Sweeney and Ernestine Grissom.
Family and friends may visit at High Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. in High’s Chapel with Mark Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County with military graveside rites by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
