James Clayton Adcock, 92, of the Belk community was born Jan. 6, 1924 and died Monday morning, May 16 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. Mr. Clayton was a member of Keltonburg Church of Christ, retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by parents Edgar and Callie Bain Adcock; daughter Donna C. Phillips; brothers J.B. Adcock, Eston Adcock, Eldon Adcock, Wilburn Adcock; sisters Myrtle McCormick, Willow Rybeka, Jewell Jones, Shrily Adcock.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Green Adcock of Smithville; sons, Phillip (Carolyn) Adcock and Wayne (Brenda) Adcock, both of Smithville; daughters, Carol (Eddie) Green of Smithville, Jane (Don) Crouch of McMinnville, Peggy Shuster of Murfreesboro, Elaine (Trey) Axum of Woodbury; sisters, Virginia Daniels, Betty J. Jones and Mildred Johnson, all of Smithville; son-in-law, Barry Phillips of Hermitage; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; devoted caregivers, Brenda Crook and Shirley Turner.Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Keltonburg Cemetery.
