Mr. James Anthony “Tony” Witt, 89, of McMinnville died Friday, May 3, at his residence. 

He was born July 2, 1929, in Chattanooga, was of the Methodist faith, and retired from Sears as a TV repairman. He entered the Army Air Corps working in communications, served in the Vietnam War, and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Witt was preceded in death by his parents William Owen and Grace Allen Witt, wife Peggy Fay Shankles Witt, son James “Jimmy” Anthony Witt Jr., daughter Andrea Susan Hill, brother Norman Douglas Witt, sister Betty Jo Witt Hixson, half-brothers William Owen Witt Jr. and James Eugene Witt, and half-sisters Lorene Sue Witt Salter and Catherine Witt Cope.

Survivors include his daughter Sandra Ellen Witt, grandchildren Richard Daniel Acton, James “Jamie” Daniel Hill, and Nathaniel Anthony Hill, great-grandchildren McKenzie Acton and Lorelei Acton, siblings Robert Michael Witt, Barney Allen Witt, Patricia Witt Scaffa, Walter Timmons Witt, and Harry Hopkins Witt. Many family members and family friends also survive.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Jamie Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Military grave rites will be administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., and again Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at
