Warren County native and longtime resident Helen Christine Ferrell Newby, 89, died March 24 at New York University Medical Center after a one-week illness.A dedicated mother and homemaker, a retired teacher assistant with the Warren County High School special ed program, and a member of First Baptist Church in McMinnville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emmaline Howell Ferrell. She was also preceded in death by husband Randolph Newby, son Sgt. Jimmie Akins, daughter-in-law Linda Akins, and infant son Julius Christopher Newby.She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Randie Newby Parks and Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kim Newby Thrasher and Rusty of New York City, grandchildren Angie Akins of Indiana, Cale Parks of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kylie Parks of Ohio, and Henry Thrasher of New York City, dear brother-in-law Rudolph Newby of Tullahoma, and several very special nieces and nephews.Funeral service is Monday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. John May officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
