Rock Island resident and Grundy County native Hassie M. Harper, 78, was born Jan. 11, 1934 and died unexpectedly Oct. 7 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.A retired employee of NHC Healthcare McMinnville and member of the Church of God, she was the daughter of the late Rubin Thomas and Velma Irene King Fults. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Grady and Preston Fults.She was married July 10, 1954 to Lowell Lee Harper of Rock Island. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sarah Harper of Rock Island; daughter and son-in-law, Sissy and Charlie Pursley of Rock Island; six grandchildren and spouses, T.J. and Jennifer Harper of Memphis, Dawn and Michael Dendy of Buford, Ga., Chris Slaughter of Chattanooga, Zach Slaughter of Ridgeway, Colo., and Laura and John Herman and Holly Walker, all of McMinnville; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rubin and Gloria Fults, and Homer and Almeda Fults, all of Beersheba Springs, and Stanley and Sue Fults of Rock Island; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie and Arlin King of McMinnville and Linda and L.D. Davis of Beersheba Springs; uncle, Tony King of Beersheba Springs and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral service was held Tuesday in High’s Chapel with Scotty Lawson officiating.
