Mrs. Gladys Marie Luna Prater, 94, formerly of McMinnville, died Saturday, Dec. 25, at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.
She was born July 8, 1927, in Smithville, was a retired employee of Formfit Rogers, and a member of Newtown The Baptist Church. Gladys enjoyed sewing, loved her church family, and adored and was devoted to her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Prater was preceded in death by parents Loyd Hester and Ollie Vaughn Stephens, husbands Herman W. Luna and Herman F. Prater, son Kenneth Luna, sisters Agnes (Alvin) Thurman and Lorene (Charlie) Redmon, and brother Howard (Edmonda) Stephens.
Survivors include two sons James “Jim” (Sharon) Luna and Ronnie (Diana) Luna, stepsons Gary (Elizabeth) Prater, Phillip (DeLila) Prater, daughter-in-law Carolyn Vaughn Sowell, four grandchildren Christy Luna, Alyssa (Sam) Hobbs, Justin (Mandee) Luna, and Casie Luna (Jimmy) Fowler, and great-grandchildren Maxwell McHenry, Bennett J. Luna, Maggee L. Luna, and Emma Greenwell. Other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. noon on Thursday, Dec. 30, at the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel with Darrell Cantrell and Dwight Knowles officiating. Interment will follow at Indian Mound Cemetery in DeKalb County. The Luna family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. noon at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
