McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native Floyd “Joe” Gambrell, 82, died Oct. 6 at River Park Hospital after an extended illness.Retired from the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea and Vietnam working in communications security, he was the son of the late William Riley and Allie Elmer Maxwell Gambrell and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lucille Boyd Gambrell; sisters, Myrtle Pedigo, Mabel Pedigo, Clara Trapp and Velma Hutchins; brothers, Solon R., Lee R. and Fred W. and Clifford J., and two infant brothers.He is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Janelle Gambrell of Hendersonville.Graveside services were held Monday at Gardens of Memory with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Southern Standard (McMinnville, Tenn.)
