Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native Euwel Dwain “Hog Jowl” Hillis, 75, was born Feb. 9, 1938 and died May 6 at River Park Hospital following a short illness.A retired firefighter with the city of Atlanta, Ga., owner/ operator of Hillis Grocery, a United States Army veteran, and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Thurman and Sylvia Hillis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Mark Dwain Hillis and stepfather Gordon Breedlove.He was married April 27, 1977 to Sharon Nesbitt Hillis of Rock Island. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a special aunt, Iva Lee Curtis of McMinnville; very special friend, Betty Powell Short of McMinnville; grandson, Jason Harley Dwain Greeno of McMinnville, and several cousins.A graveside service and interment were held Tuesday at White Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County with Johnny Haston officiating.High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Southern Standard(McMinnville, Tenn.)
