Mr. Eugene “Gene” Ellsworth Armstrong, 79, of McMinnville died Sunday, Nov. 4, at St. Thomas River Park Hospital.
He was born Feb. 2, 1939 in Chapmanville, Pa.,, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired steel mill worker, and a member of Covenant Fellowship Church. Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Matilda Wagner Armstrong, son Michael Armstrong, and brothers James Armstrong, Wayne Armstrong, and Leroy Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Joyce Elaine Armstrong, daughter Michele (Alex) Rodgers, son Kevin (Amy) Armstrong, sisters Alfreda Rodgers and Donna Armstrong, grandchildren Stacie (Phillip) Hudson and Douglas (Flecia) Armstrong and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Dean Northcutt and Bro. Anthony Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow at Morrison Cemetery. Military grave rites will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and again Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
