Elnora Mai “Tootie” Bennett, 89, a McMinnville resident and Jackson County native, was born Feb. 17, 1928 and died July 29 in NHC Healthcare of McMinnville following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bennett was a retired employee of Century Electric, member of the Church of Christ and daughter of the late Joel Ernest and Anna Lee Stafford Polson. She was married April 28, 1946 to Finis Auburn Bennett, who preceded her in death on July 29, 2000. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son Terry Bennett; brother Ronnie Polson; and sisters Olga Orange, Mary Forrester, Mable Vinson and Jo Pedigo.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Jane Bennett of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Jim Trent of Beaufort, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bennett of Rock Island; grandchildren and spouses, Angie and Greg Carter of Rock Island, Lee and Erica Trent of Charleston, S.C., Leann and Tony Fults of McMinnville, Kelly and Brittany Bennett of Murfreesboro, and Tracy and Marlena Bennett of Rock Island; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Holden Carter and Hensley Carter, all of Rock Island, Delaney Bennett of Murfreesboro, Journey Bennett of Rock Island, Kainan Fults, Johnnie Fults and Dez Fults of McMinnville, and Knox Trent of Charleston; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Don Crawford of Old Hickory; and special friend, J.C. Womack of McMinnville.
Funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 1 in High’s Chapel with Ricky Burks and Thurman Bennett to officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at
