David Elzie Whitaker Sr., 83, a Morrison resident and Coffee County native, was born April 3, 1933 and died Feb. 16 in NHC Healthcare of McMinnville following a lingering illness.He was a retired minister, retired welder with the Carrier Corporation, member of Hiawassee Church of Christ, and son of the late Richard and Jimmie Reese Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Shelia Davis and Elizabeth and Lewis Chadwell, all of Morrison; sons and daughters-in-law, David Whitaker Jr., Jeffery Whitaker and Gregory and Stephanie Whitaker, all of Morrison; Anthony Whitaker of Antioch and William and Donna Whitaker of Memphis; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and best friends, Maggie Locke and the Youngblood brothers. Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Hiawassee Church of Christ with Chris Whitaker to officiate.
