Carlous Edward Wood, 77, of Sparta died Sunday, Nov. 16, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.
He was born Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1937 in McMinnville. He was the son of the late Malcolm Wood and Carrie Phinazee Wood. He was the fourth child from this union. He worked 30 years for Bridge Builders Inc., as a concrete finisher. After retirement, he worked part time at Plaza Shopping Center in McMinnville. He usually worked from sun up to sun down just about every day. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to music, playing cards with his friends, and planting vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his ex-wife Aline Wood of Sparta; special friend, Willie Martin of McMinnville; his children, Denise (Leon) Elligan of Sparta, and Laticia Woods of McMinnville; his grandchildren, Timothy Elligan of Sparta, Lakean Woods, Carlos Woods of McMinnville; his stepchildren, John Strode, Mary Cullom, Ann Grayson, Mildred (Arthur) Gist, Desaree (Ricky) Terry, Alicia (Terry) Dibrell, Rhonda Strode of Sparta; Georgia (Charlie) Lusk of McMinnville, Ronald Strode of Cookeville; Eric Martin of McMinnville; Becky Fisk of Junction City, Ks.; his step-grandchildren, Robert and David Cullom of Chicago, Ill., Keith Cullom, Miranda Cullom, James Coonrod, Tony Strode, Ronald Strode, Donald Strode, Charlene Gist, Darlene Gist, Jason Strode, Kevin Strode of Sparta, Jonathan Donahue of Livingston; Regina Coonrod of Washington D.C., Bryon Hamilton, Halle Strode of Cookeville, Charles Lusk Jr., Krojhn Calbert, Tay’Asha Martin, Malachi Martin, Azayla Martin, Austin Fisk of McMinnville; his brothers and sisters, Clarence Wood, Harold (Rubie) Wood, James (Carrie) Wood, William Wood, Paul (Sharon) Wood of Cleveland, Ohio, Luther Wood, Orbin (Sue Mae) Wood of McMinnville, Henry (Hattie) Wood of Cookeville, Dorothy Ramsey of McMinnville, Catherine Young, Yvonne Wood, and Mary Wood of Cleveland Ohio. Many other family members and friends also survive; special friends and caregivers, Willie Martin, Glenda Smith, and Linda Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Algoma Wood; sister, Manila Marshall; and a step-grandchild Bricen Strode.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie Cameron officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery at Martin Charge. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to the family at
