Caleb Dane Sanders, 25, of Nashville died July 31 at his home after an extended illness.
A member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in May 2011 as an ensign. He was company commander in charge of 127 midshipmen from the 20th Company. He was promoted to lieutenant junior grade on June 5, 2013.
He was the son of Kenneth and Mary Cowans-Sanders of Nashville. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, William (Bill) Cowans, Mary Schilz Cowans; paternal grandmothers, Shirley Sanders; aunt, Teresa Cowans and uncle Tim Cowans.
He is survived by his brother, Sean Kirby Sanders of Nashville; Kenneth Jones of Dickson; aunt, Chris Cowans of McMinnville; uncles, Steve (Dorene) Cowans of Morrison, Mark (Cathy) Cowans of Kansas, Gracie (Michael) Newman of Dickson; numerous cousins and hundreds of friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Nashville with burial following at Nashville National Cemetery on Aug. 6.
Lewis and Wright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
