Mr. Bennie “Buck” Thurman Bryant, 85, a Van Buren County native and resident of the Bone Cave community, passed away Tuesday July 16, after an extended illness. 

He was born Aug. 3, 1933 to the late Robert Taylor and Cleo Simons Bryant. He attended Mt. Elim Baptist Church, retired from Dunn Steel as a tool and die maker, was employed for many years at Powermatic and served in the Tennessee National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Buck served several terms as Van Buren County Commissioner from the 2nd District.

Besides his parents Buck was preceded in death by daughter Chana Bryant, brother Bobby Joe Bryant, sisters Deane Haston and Patti Sue McCormick, and grandson Ricky Howard.

He is survived by son; Larry (Jennie) Bryant of Guntersville, Ala., daughters Joan (Leton) Delong of Rock Island, Teresa Howard of Rock Island and Denise (David) Bonds of Spencer, brother David B. Bryant of Texas, sister Deann (Joe) Killebrew of Sparta, grandchildren Tracy McCoy, Jeremy (Amy) Howard, Justin Bryant, Kayla Myers, Lenzy Armstrong, Austin (Ciara) Martin and Gus (Natalee) Martin, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral service will be held Friday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at Layne Spencer Chapel with Bro. Willard Ralph officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. till time of service. Burial will follow at Laurel Creek Cemetery. Send condolences to
