Ben E. McCormick, 83, of Rock Island died Wednesday, Jan. 8, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in McMinnville on July 20, 1930, the son of the late Cora (Slaughter) and Eligia  McCormick. He attended the Baptist Church. He worked for the city of McMinnville Street Department where he retired after 33 years.
Mr. McCormick is survived by his nephew and wife, John R. and Terri J. McCormick of Rock Island; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eligia and Cora (Slaughter) McCormick, four sisters, Evelyn Pendleton, Willene Herriman, Pauline McDowell, and Mildred Crouch, four brothers, Lester McCormick, Aubrey McCormick, Floyd McCormick, and Harvie McCormick.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gardens of Memory Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Gardens of Memory Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday with Dwight Rackley and Tom Measles officiating. To sign the online guessbook, visit www.gardensofmemoryfuneralhome.com.
