Veterans Day is a day set aside to recognize all veterans from all branches of the military. It is officially observed each year on Nov. 11.
There are several local events planned, with most schools having assembly programs to honor veterans in the community.
An annual event at the McMinnville Warren County Senior Center will be held Thursday, Nov. 9 for all veterans and their spouses.
“We have been holding this event for many years, because of its importance in our lives,” said Senior Center director Connie Smith. “We encourage all veterans regardless of age to take part in the activity.”
The program will start at 10 a.m., with Honor Guard Post 173 presenting the colors. Kelly Walker Slaughter will sing the national anthem. Anita Dunn will read a poem she wrote honoring those who have served in the military.
U.S. Army veteran John Davis will be the guest speaker. He served in Vietnam in 1967-68, is president and original charter member of Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of the Royce Davenport Chapter 112 and VFW Post 5064.
Lunch will follow the program, with group photos for each branch of service also taken.
The contact number for the Senior Center is 473-6559, and it's located at 809 Morrison Street.
