A fundraiser dedicated to helping people battle cancer will take place Saturday, June 4, as Warren County Relay for Life returns to downtown McMinnville.

The community’s fight against cancer begins at 5 p.m.

“We have high hopes for this year’s turnout,” said Relay for Life organizer Carla Savage. “You never know, but we do have high hopes.”

At 5 p.m., the First Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith will perform. That performance will be on the Grassy Lot stage.

Talented local band Assisted Living will take the stage at 6 p.m.

Opening ceremony begins at 7 p.m. with an invocation by Central Church of Christ preacher Cody Boston and pledge led by The Survivor Children.

“We have children who have survived cancer and they will lead the pledge,” said Savage.

After the opening ceremony, the emotional Survivor Walk begins.

A Relay Auction, conducted by Donald Hillis Realty, returns in this year’s Relay for Life. Event sponsors will also be introduced.

The luminaria ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer.

They can be dedicated to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who’s overcome it. Cost is $10.

Purchases can be made through any team member or on the evening of the event.
