The exciting Reggae at Smooth Rapids event is set to take place on Aug. 4-5. The third-annual, two-day event will feature emerging reggae bands in an affordable, laid-back, natural, 10-acre setting.
The unique experience will offer gorgeous natural scenery, food vendors, novelty and beverage vendors, tent and RV camping and kayaking, all at the river setting. Eighteen bands will be on tap to perform, with six playing Friday from 4 p.m. till midnight; and the remaining on Saturday starting at noon. A large covered stage has been constructed for the event ensuring the show will go on.
Weekend passes are available for $50, which includes a kayaking trip; and day passes are available for $20. Gates will open at noon on Friday to accommodate guests and campers.
“This is a fun family event, enjoyed for two years,” said one of the organizers Jimmy Barker. “We encourage families to come to swim, kayak and tube on the river, all while enjoying the music and outdoors.”
The festival will feature music from headliners The Ellameno Beat, Treehouse!, Egroove, Chinese Connection Dub Embassy, and local group Whyte Noyse.
The event timing comes just days before The Ellameno Beat releases its upcoming album, "Surface," on Aug. 11. The band recently announced a partnership with the Mauli Ola Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hope and confidence to individuals living with genetic diseases.
Smooth Rapids is located at 245 Durham Street, with passes and camping information available by calling 93-452-9251.
