Bonner FCEC met July 7at 11 a.m. in the Dogwood Room with nine members present.
Visitors Mary Rubley and Brenda Blocker were welcomed. President Linda Nixon called the meeting to order, and chaplain Fay Hickey read from the book “God’s Little Devotional Book.” The theme of the reading was do the best with the talents you are given. She closed with a prayer.
Members stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and roll call was conducted by each one present telling their favorite yellow flower. The minutes for the June meeting were read by Donna Dunlap, and the financial report was given by Becky Surles. Vice president Vita Gulley took over the meeting.
Dunlap attended the Family Life Leader’s training and gave a demonstration on Life’s Hacks, which are procedures or actions that solve problems, simplify a task in one’s everyday life activities. Members were given a handout showing several of these life’s hacks.
Surles, Connie York, Hickey and Dunlap gave book reports. President Nixon thanked Gulley, Dunlap, Hickey and Diane Gillespie for working for the club at the Bloodmobile in June. Dunlap attended the Dairy Day activities, and Hickey,York, Irene Fuston and Linda attended the County Council meeting last month.
Nixon volunteered our club to provide the meal for the County Council meeting in September. Members met in the 4-H room on July 1 to make goody bags for the residents of Fannie B Home. We took these bags, along with some cupcakes to celebrate the July 4th. Our next visit to the center will be in September for Labor Day.
The Bonner Club will be working the Country Store at the fair on Sept. 17. The Cultural Arts/Beef Day is coming up, with registration for cultural arts items to begin at 9:30 am.
The meal will be at 11a.m. while the cultural arts items are being judged. Everyone is encouraged to participate in one or both activities.
The Fall Planning meeting will be on Oct, 8 at 10 a.m. We received an invitation to attend the Tennessee Button Society gathering on Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Linda attended a demonstration about Alzheimer’s, and stated it was a very eye opening experience. We discussed having a representative come to a club meeting in the future.
Members provided fruit for the Hamilton Street Center and items for the Child Advocacy Center. Next month it was decided to bring school supplies for both centers. Our next meeting will be on Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Dogwood Room. The FCE Creed was recited to close the meeting, with members going to Pizza Hut for the July outing.
