Caryl Mack and her band will perform this Friday night for Main Street Live.

A storyteller through song will take the Main Street Live summer concert series stage this Friday, June 24.

Caryl Mack is an award-winning, Amer-icana singer/songwriter out of Nashville.

“I love the energy of a live band,” said Mack. “I have been playing mostly writer rounds or solo shows with myself and my husband, Scott, in recent years. Last year, after the pandemic had eased up, we called some of our favorite musician friends to play some music with us around our fire pit.”

Some of those sessions were recorded and posted on YouTube and on Mack’s Facebook page.

“It’s been a blast to make music with a band again. I can’t wait to play an entire evening of music at Main Street Live. We have so much fun playing together. I hope everyone who comes will catch that joy,” said Mack.

The playlist for Main Street Live will include both original and cover songs – several songs from the “Mercy Road” album, some fire pit session songs, and some from “The Boss.”

“I recently performed a set of Bruce Springsteen covers that I really have fun singing so we’ll break out a few of those on Friday night,” said Mack.

She is a newcomer to the Main Street Live stage, but not to Warren County.

“In addition to being a singer and songwriter performing my own brand of music, I also lead praise and worship at my home church in Nashville, Belmont Church, and several times at Christ Community Church in McMinnville, so I’m expecting to see some familiar faces in the crowd on Friday.”

What’s your favorite song?

“That’s a hard one,” Mack said. “My favorite to sing is probably a song called “Say When.” I think because I see my role as a storyteller, this song has that kind of delivery. It starts like the beginning of a joke, “Jesus walks into a bar ...” and then it kind of draws the listener into a story and you’re not sure where it’s going. The song is a conversation.”

Mack’s original song ideas come when she least expects them.

“It really varies. It might just be a phrase I heard someone say, or maybe a story I read about or heard someone tell. Or it’s something I’m going through that I just need to process, and I do it through the words and music. Sometimes it comes to me in the middle of the night, and I have to get up and write it down so I won’t forget it.”

The Friday night concert series is organized by Main Street McMinnville and offered free to the public thanks to generous sponsors. Food vendors start serving at 6 p.m. and Caryl Mack is scheduled to begin playing at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music on the West Lawn of Security Federal on Main Street.
