Erin Cantrell has accepted the role of 2017 June Dairy Month chairman for Warren County.
Dairy Month activities are designed to communicate the value of milk and dairy products to Tennessee consumers and chairpersons play a vital role in spreading dairy’s message in their community.
Cantrell will be honored at the Tennessee June Dairy Month Kickoff Event in Nashville at the Ellington Agriculture Center on June 2. The event will include recognition from Celeste Blackburn, president of the American Dairy Association of Tennessee.
“Being the dairy chairman is important to me,” Cantrell said. “It gives me an opportunity to inform my community about the importance of supporting local dairy products.”
The celebration, which officially kicks off June Dairy Month in Tennessee, recognizes Tennessee 4-H member’s efforts to promote June Dairy Month. The event is co-sponsored by Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, 4-H and the Tennessee Farm Bureau.
“My great-grandfather was a dairy man,” Cantrell said. “My family has worked hard to preserve the traditional values of dairy producers.”
Erin is the daughter of Wayne and Peggye Cantrell and is a recent graduate of Boyd Christian School. Cantrell was a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society and Student Council at the school. She also plays basketball and softball and is active in her church’s youth group.
“We wish Erin much success in her role of communicating the nutritional benefits of milk and dairy products to the people in Warren County,” said American Dairy Association of Tennessee president Celeste Blackburn. “Erin will appreciate the cooperation of the people there. Her interest and enthusiasm will result in a better informed community from which all will benefit.”
Erin is an active member of her 4-H chapter, participating in public speaking, beef Skillathon and livestock judging contests.
She and 4-H agents Emily Mote and Shay Davis are busy planning activities for the month, including several private events, as well as some that are open to the public. Cantrell will participate in the Southern Standard’s annual Banana Day, serving ice cream to visiting guests. A homemade ice cream contest open to local 4-H members will take place June 24 at 9 a.m. at the Farmers Market, and the date for an ice cream social is yet to be set.
“It’s a busy time, and I look forward to meeting as many people as I can in an effort to promote dairy products and their producers,” said Cantrell.
This year’s theme, “Get More with Milk,” focuses on the consumer, and encourages families to make milk their first beverage choice due to its unique package of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are an essential part of a healthy diet.
