Blues Springs School holds 7th annual reunion

Former students, their spouses, parents, children, and other interested persons attended the Blue Springs School 7th annual Reunion, which was held Oct. 26, at the Blue Springs Community Center.
This location couldn’t be better, since the Blue Springs Community Center stands in the former site of the Blue Springs School, which began in 1929 and closed in 1972.
Acting as hosts for this year’s event were Fay Bratcher, Peggy (Phillips) Hendrixson, Lydia (Prater) Murphy and James Edward Certain. Reed Miller served as master of the ceremony.
All in attendance observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the four students, who had passed away since last year’s reunion, which were Kenneth W. Cantrell, Billy W. Miller, Clarence Aubrey Taylor and Dorothy (Cantrell) Underhill. The family of these students each received a long-stem white rose in their memory.
After Cordell Lawson asked the blessing for the food, a delicious lunchtime meal consisting of finger foods, cold cuts, salads, and a wide variety of desserts were enjoyed by the 30 guests present.
The drawing of the door prizes and gifts was hosted by Peggy (Phillips) Hendrixson and Fay Bratcher and included several nice and useful gifts. Photographs and mementos were on display for everyone’s enjoyment and reminiscence.
The day ended with each one in attendance getting an opportunity to have both an individual photo and a group photo of those present taken by photographer, James Edward Certain. A photo album will be put together by the photographer for anyone interested in purchasing one. Those interested should contact Certain by calling (931) 273-2327 or e-mail him at jcertain@blomand.net.
All in attendance for the event enjoyed the fun-filled day and are planning the 8th annual Blue Springs School Reunion for next year, which will be held on the last Saturday in October. Mark your calendars, call or contact your former school mates and their families, and make plans to attend this very special day.
