The F.C. Boyd Christian School board is excited to name Jessica Akers as principal for the 2015-2016 school year. Akers has been chosen by the board of directors to fill the position as principal being vacated by Tabetha Sullens. Sullens served as principal for two years, and is taking a position at the Webb School.
Akers holds a bachelor of science degree, and an interdisciplinary teaching certificate from Lipscomb University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was also named Cannon County Teacher of the Year in 2007-2008. She has served as a substitute at Boyd for two years, as well as serving as president of the PTF. Prior to her time at Boyd, she taught at East Side Elementary in Cannon County.
“Mrs. Akers has proven her love and dedication for Boyd by her past and present efforts to the entire Boyd School family. It is with pride we soon see a granddaughter of one of the early board members, Clayton Glenn, continue the family atmosphere at Boyd School. We look forward to her energies as being in this leadership position. Mrs. Akers is a qualified educator with experience in K-8 teaching. She is on campus daily and has been for two years serving in all volunteer capacities she can. Her efforts will continue to support the high level of expectation in training students spiritually and in academics. We look forward to continued success for Boyd School,” said board chairman Gary Hancock.
Jessica and her husband Tim will have two children at Boyd this fall. Clay will be in second grade and Annagail will be in pre-K.
In celebration of the new principal, the discounted pre-registration rate will be carried out through April 30 with a $100 savings.
“I am truly honored to be taking on the principal position at Boyd. I love this school and believe in this school with all my heart. There is no place on Earth like Boyd,” said Akers. “I commit myself to the fulfillment of Boyd Christian School’s mission and continued success, and am excited for our future!”
Former principal Tabetha Sullens had this to say, “I feel Jessica will be a strong asset to the school. She is very detail oriented and she follows through in all of her endeavors. She has love for the students and the program. I am certain she sees the school a mission field. I am confident she will continue to change lives at BCS.”
