Pure growth

Pure Wealth Partners financial advisors began in one historic McMinnville building and will soon be moving to another. Citing a desire to make an even greater commitment to Warren County, Dan Sellers and CK Cayce are moving their business from the Pure Oil gas station on N Spring Street to the Magness House at 1511 Sparta St.

"CK and I have been in the financial services industry for over a decade each now. We started Pure Wealth Partners together in June of 2020 and have made our focus financial planning and fiduciary investment advice," Dan said.

Pure Wealth Partners aims to work with clients to understand their individual goals and then create a personalized plan to help meet them. Whether it's retirement, saving for college or just creating a nest egg, the professionals of Pure Wealth are ready to apply a personal touch to customers' financial needs.

The team consists of Dan and CK, both financial advisors and partners; Sarah Cantrell, retirement plan operations coordinator; and Amanda Leonardo, branch operations manager.

The growth of the company has led the team to look to expand by moving to a larger location, and one with a rich history of its own. The Magness House was built in 1835 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

"We have had a great experience in  our Pure Oil gas station in downtown McMinnville, but are excited for our move to the Magness house or 'Oakham' as it is called on the national historic registry. We help our clients stay focused on long-term strategies and we feel like purchasing the Magness House is the best long-term strategy for us. We have said from the beginning we are here for the long haul, and this purchase helps signify our commitment to this community," Dan said.

Dan said they are currently preparing to make the move to their new location and plan to be moved in by Dec. 15 when they will hold a Christmas open house and toy drive.  Pure Wealth Partners can be contacted at (931) 507-7873 and purewealthpartners.com.

Adopt an elf

at the Attic

Generations of Warren County children have grown up knowing Ashley's Attic as a major part of their Christmases and that is a tradition that lives on to this day. Helen and Garry Gillentine continue to operate the store they launched in 1987.

Though the children's clothing and toy store has seen several locations during its lifespan, the hometown touch and extra emphasis on customer service has remained with the business all the way to its latest location at 301 S. High St. near the Blue Building.

Ashley's Attic has seen several shifts in its offerings over its 36 years, shifting with customer demands and market trends. Starting as primarily a children's consignment clothing store, then transitioning to all new children's clothing, years later Ashley's Attic became best known as the place in McMinnville for all things Hello Kitty. The store then added a large selection of Crocs for several years. Currently, though it still offers a smaller selection of children's clothing and shoes, the shop has become primarily a baby gift and toy store.

Full disclosure, I'm a little more familiar with this business than many of the ones I write about, as Helen and Garry are my favorite father- and mother-in-law. That's right, I married Ashley of Ashley's Attic in 2009 and have been a little hesitant to feature them in Business Pulse to avoid the appearance of favoritism but, hey, they are Southern Standard advertisers and shouldn't be punished just because of whom their daughter married. So, I decided Thanksgiving week would be a good time to interview somebody I'd be seeing anyway instead of trying to track down businesses over a holiday week.

As the Christmas season is upon us, Ashley's Attic is in its busiest time of the year. For more than a decade, Ashley's Attic has been Warren County's Elf on the Shelf Adoption Center.

The Elf on the Shelf phenomenon has grown from a simple book and a doll which serves as Santa's scout to make sure children stay on the nice list has morphed into a full industry. Elf on the Shelf now offers DVDs, activity sets, books, a full line of clothing, pets and so much more and Ashley's Attic offers the whole line of Elf on the Shelf products.

"When we learned about Elf on the Shelf and that it was a product started by a mother and daughter team, we knew we had to bring it to McMinnville to our family business. We were the first place to find the original Elf on the Shelf locally and we continue to be the official Elf Adoption Center in Warren County," Helen said.

The store strives to provide extra touches that customers can't find at the big box stores, something that has helped the family-owned business survive nearly 40 years. Ashley's Attic offers free gift-wrapping, free layaway, gift certificates, personal shopping and free in-town delivery. They even offer to open up for personal shopping emergencies. I know, because Ashley and I once went to the store late one Christmas Eve when Ashley received a call from someone who realized they had forgotten a crucial gift, and we were happy to do so.

"We just want to thank our customers who have shopped local with us all of these years. Not every small business is fortunate enough to stay in business as long as we have but we really have the best customers and the best community supporting us. We appreciate them all, especially at this time of the year," Garry said.

Ashley's Attic can be found on Facebook and Instagram @ashleysattictn and are open Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and also by appointment at 301 S. High St. The store will be holding an open house on Saturday, Dec. 2 featuring discounts and refreshments and will be posting special holiday hours during December on the store's social media outlets. Ashley's Attic can be contacted at (931) 473-7006.
