A man who allegedly held a shotgun to his wife’s head and doused her in Kool Aid has been bound to the grand jury on felony domestic assault charges. The suspect, Jason Edward Yates, 31, waived his right to preliminary hearing before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke and was bound to the grand jury on charges of aggravated domestic assault, manufacture of drugs and reckless endangerment. His bond was reduced to $40,000 during his appearance before the court, but he has been warned to stay away from the victim if he gets out of jail. His charges come after he allegedly attacked his wife at their Rock Island home, hitting her in the head and face with his fists.“He grabbed her and started to strangle her and stated he would kill her,” said sheriff’s investigator Kevin Murphy. “He then grabbed a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and put it to her face.”The reckless endangerment charge was brought because their 2-year-old was in the room during the incident and could have picked up the loaded shotgun.“The shotgun was on the floor,” Murphy said, noting it had been placed there by Mr. Yates.
