Hold the mayo. McMinnville Parks and Recreation is preparing for a season without hamburgers. Hotdogs will be the staple food at concession stands this year.
Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord says the decision to remove hamburgers from the menu was based on financial reasons.
“As we do every year, we evaluate concessions to determine what’s selling, what’s not and what we should offer during the summer,” said McCord. “Hamburgers are a big-ticket item. It costs quite a bit more to offer hamburgers in comparison to offering hotdogs.”
Left on the menu with hotdogs are nachos and cheese, snow cones, candy bars, peanuts, drinks, etc.
Feeling the initial effects of hamburger withdrawal are individuals visiting the ballfields to watch the season’s first games, which began Monday night.
“The department has received a few complaints about the decision,” said McCord. “I have received two or three complaint calls myself. Our goal is still to offer good service, fast service and quality foods, but we have to keep an eye on the bottom line.”
What is gone today might return in 2014.
“At the end of the season, we will re-evaluate the summer’s concessions and made a determination for next year,” said McCord. “Until then, I can’t say if hamburgers will be added back to the menu.”
Along with ballfield concession stands, hamburgers will not be offered at Gilley Pool’s concession stand this year.
Where's the beef? Not at the ballpark
