WCMS talent show rescheduled till April

An abundance of activities next weekend has resulted in the rescheduling of one.
Warren County Idol, originally planned for Dec. 10, has been changed to April 14.
Warren County Middle School announced earlier this week the event will not be held this coming Saturday at 6 p.m. as previously scheduled. It will be held April 14 at 6 p.m.
A conflict with other activities prompted the change, according to event organizers.
“We don’t want to conflict with other activities going on in the community,” Middle School principal Gerald Tidwell said in explaining the change. “With so many activities planned for that Saturday, we felt it was better to change the date.”
Among activities scheduled for Dec. 10 is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” in downtown McMinnville. The event will last throughout the night.
Tidwell says the decision to wait until April was prompted by the bad weather expected throughout December and January, as well as sports-related activities in February and March.
“I think it will be good to hold this in the spring,” he said.
Warren County Idol is a fundraiser by the school to benefit the restoration of its lockers. Placed in 1957 at the same time as the school, some of the lockers are in bad shape with missing doors and missing shelves.
Estimates place locker replacement at approximately $100 each, with refurbishing around $20. The school has 1,769 lockers so the decision was made to redo rather than replace. Lockers will be painted a rotation of red and blue.
Registration for amateur singers 12 and older, as well as duets and groups, is $25. Contestants are allowed to sing with a CD or musical instruments. Only the first 50 entries will be accepted. Prizes total $1,050, with $500 going to first place.
Tickets to attend the event are being sold at the school. Cost is $5. Space is limited. The auditorium seats 700.
With the unexpected change in the event date, the school is offering refunds to those who have already purchased a ticket to attend or those who signed up to perform who cannot make the April 14 date.
For more information, or to make a monetary donation for the lockers, contact the school at 473-6557. All tickets dated Dec. 10 will be honored April 14.
