A local resident and Warren County High School graduate is vying for the title of Material Girl 2012. Hometown support is needed for online voting in order to keep her in the running.
Bailey Palmer, 18, graduated from WCHS two years ago at the age of 16. She attended MTSU for one year and completed an internship with Found Movement Group in Nashville. After accepting a scholarship to Columbia College in Chicago, she is now a junior working on a degree in dance.
Bailey was among thousands of girls who attended a Lucky Star Model Search audition to be a Material Girl for a clothing line by Madonna, the original “Material Girl.”
During the audition, she submitted a picture and essay about why she should be the next Material Girl.
“I’m so incredibly lucky to live the life I do,” Bailey said in her essay. “I don’t have much money, but my friends and family have made me the richest person. My body isn’t perfect, but it’s mine. I live and breathe diva.”
In round one of the competition, judges – Madonna, her daughter Lola, Kelly Osborne and others – narrowed the number to 36 semifinalists, which included Bailey. Osborne was last year’s Material Girl.
Round two of the competition just began and this is when your vote counts. Palmer’s mother says local residents can go online and vote for Bailey to win at materialgirlcollection.com.
“I know I’m a little biased, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if a girl from McMinnville won,” said Jill Palmer. “She was one of only 36 chosen out of thousands submitted. That’s impressive all by itself so I’m proud of her no matter what.”
The 36 semifinalists are posted on the Material Girl Collection website. Per guidelines, voting is limited to one vote per person, please. Abuse may result in disqualification of votes and/ or a semifinalist.
Of the 36, only 10 with the highest number of votes from online voting will make it through to the third round of competition. Finalists will travel to New York from Dec. 5-15 to compete in the final round. A panel of judges will then choose three grand prize winners.
The remaining three girls will receive a prize package valued at $10,000. Along with a two-day photo shoot for the 2012 advertising campaign, they will be presented with $5,000 cash.
Time is running out to vote online. Voting ends Dec. 5.
“Bailey found out Tuesday she was one of the 36, and the only finalist from Tennessee,” said Jill. “If chosen, Bailey plans to donate some of her prize money to children at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.”
