Students at Warren County High School can rejoice. Not only is the hour-long lunch period staying, but students will now be legally allowed to use their cellphones during lunch, as well as between classes.“Why are we fighting it?” asked WCHS executive principal Jimmy Walker regarding the use of cellphones outside the classroom.Walker, who is a longtime teacher and coach, took the helm of the high school as executive principal this summer with the resignation of Tony Cassel. In allowing phones to be used during lunch and class breaks, Walker said students have been doing it anyway. And, provided they don’t bring cellphones into class where they could be used to cheat on tests or provide a distraction from instruction, Walker says there is no use fighting technology.
