A man who choked and threatened the life of a woman has been sentenced to a half-year behind bars.The man, Phillip Alan Walters, 39, of Doyle entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of domestic assault and was ordered to serve 180 days of a two-year sentence. He has been released on time served and warned to have no contact with the victim.The victim reported she was on the phone when Walters knocked the phone out of her hand and shoved her onto the bed and jumped on top of her. He then put his hand over her mouth smothering her.The woman said she tried to make a run for it once he moved off her, but he gave chase.“He grabbed me by the throat,” the woman told a judicial commissioner in her warrant which originally charged felony assault against Walters.
