VFW selling commemorative bricks to honor veterans

VFW Post 5064 is selling commemorative bricks to build a memorial wall to veterans that will be placed in front of the post. Bricks are $60 and will include the name, date of service, and the logo of which branch of service.
“This wall will honor those who have served their country,” said Ladies Auxiliary president Phyllis Barnes. “It leaves a lasting memorial for their families to go and look for their names long after they are gone.”
The wall will be placed in front of the post in the grassy area where it can be seen as motorists pass and be enjoyed by those who stop.
“We are starting with 500 bricks for the veterans here in Warren County and more can be added later,” said Barnes. “The wall is going to be really nice. Other posts have memorial walls.”
The post has been attempting to undergo renovations, such as improvements to the bathrooms, foyer and dining room. Proceeds from the sale of bricks could go to one or more of those upgrades.
Barnes says the idea of a museum has been suggested, but that won’t be any time soon.
“We have all kinds of uniforms and items that have been donated to us over the years,” said Barnes. “We have thought about establishing a museum out back. We have a lot of plans.”
For an order form, call Barnes at 931-934-3217. If no one answers, leave a message that includes name and number and she will call you back. Assistance in filling out the form can be provided.
