Veterans program set for Saturday

An annual veterans program will be offered at Regions Bank on Main Street this Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The event is to honor those who served in World War II.
“The greatest generation has been under appreciated,” Heritage Alliance member Jimmy Haley said of World War II veterans. “We feel like it’s our duty to honor their duty by commemorating their service to our nation and for saving the world.”
Each month, thousands of World War II veterans die nationwide. Haley says the number in attendance each year during this program proves Warren County is not excluded.
“We take a group picture each year,” he said. “With each passing year, we have two or three less than the year before. These people are in their late 80s and early 90s. We could be seeing them together for what could be their last hurrah.”
This year’s program is organized by Heritage Alliance with sponsorship from Regions Bank, Main Street McMinnville and River Park Hospital.
There will be a video presented by Bruce Atnip, who has generated a program using scenes and pictures, and a presentation by a guest speaker.
Patriotic music will be provided by McMinnville’s Silver and Gold Band during the event, with River Park Hospital furnishing refreshments.
All World War II veterans and their families are invited. The program is expected to last one hour. As always, a group picture of the veterans will be taken.
