Tennessee Tech senior Lee-Allen Turner will be heading to Indianapolis in October as one of 16 finalists in the National FFA American Star Awards.As a finalist, Turner will receive $2,000 from the National FFA Foundation and earns the opportunity to participate in an international trip to Costa Rica.Turner, the son of local nurseryman John Turner Sr. and wife Terri, is a graduate of Warren County High School and a student of longtime FFA sponsor Russell Watson, who has worked with him during his high school career and into college. Lee-Allen will be graduating from Tech in May, earning a bachelor’s degree with a dual major in animal science and agronomy and soil science.Last week, Erik Winning, a cameraman with the National FFA organization, made the journey to Lee-Allen’s family business, Turner & Son Nursery, to tape Lee-Allen in action for “Stars Over America,” a special audiovisual presentation featuring the Star Award winners which will be presented at the National FFA Convention.Lee-Allen is a finalist for the Star in Agribusiness award. According to the National FFA website, “These awards recognize students who have developed outstanding agricultural skill and competency through their career development programs, demonstrated outstanding management skills, earned the American FFA Degree – the organization’s highest level of accomplishment – and met other agricultural education, scholarship and leadership requirements.”Lee-Allen said he is looking forward to the convention in Indianapolis Oct. 19-22, noting Watson predicted his success early on.“I’m really excited,” said Lee-Allen.
