Most pawn shops don’t have a drive-thru window. But that didn’t stop one careless driver from attempting to create one Wednesday night.
Luz Marina Sanchez, 31, was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday night after allegedly crashing a truck through the front wall of KK’s Loans, Music and Jewelry on N. Chancery St.
According to the arrest report filed by McMinnville Police Officer Larry Holladay, officers were dispatched to the store just before 7 p.m. Wednesday for a possible break-in. Upon arrival, he found a vehicle had driven through the shop, but no vehicle was at the scene. Holladay reported observing tire marks, indicating the vehicle had backed out and fled.
“It looks like they just lost control of the vehicle, jumped the curb and ran through the building, then backed out and left,” store manager Randel Cagle, who was busy cleaning up the damage on Thursday afternoon, said.
“Originally I thought somebody may have busted through to try and steal things, but we checked and nothing was missing.”
Investigating officers located Sanchez at 104 Walker St., where she reportedly admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and offered to take officers to show them where it was located. Lt. Matt Stubblefield transported Sanchez to the area she described, and the 2013 Toyota Tundra was found in the parking lot of West Riverside Church of Christ on Bell St. The vehicle reportedly had major damage consistent with the crash, Sanchez did not have a driver’s license, and no insurance documentation was found in the vehicle.
Sanchez was charged with driving without a proper license, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. She also received a citation for violating the financial responsibility law.
KK’s reportedly suffered over $100,000 in damages. Cagle said he hopes the store will be able to reopen Friday.
Sanchez was released after posting a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled for arraignment in General Sessions Court Oct. 17.
