NASHVILLE (AP) — Police in Nashville say a man who tried to rob a tobacco store has been fatally shot by a clerk.The clerk told investigators the man came into the store early Thursday, pulled a knife and jumped over the counter. The clerk said he fired in self-protection.Arriving police officers found the man unconscious, but still breathing. He died at Vanderbilt University Hospital.Police indicated no charges were likely, according to WSMV-TV.Investigators said there was no one else in the store near the city’s airport and there were no security camera images to review.• • • • •MURFREESBORO (AP) – A man who claims to have been abducted by alien beings will be among the speakers Saturday in Murfreesboro at an annual conference sponsored by the Tennessee chapter of the Mutual Unidentified Flying Objects Network.Thomas Reed and his family have experienced multigenerational contact with such aliens since the 1950s, according to a news release from the network.The release said the conference will include people with stories of UFO sightings and extraterrestrial encounters.According to the network, Tennessee has had more than the usual number of sightings this year, including more than 20 in September alone.The conference is at the Baymont Inn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
