A group of teens walking through the woods made a gruesome discovery Saturday night when they came upon the body of a man who authorities believe hanged himself.

"There is no sign of homicide but he has been sent for autopsy just to be sure," said Sheriff Jackie Matheny, following the discovery of the body in the woods behind Oakland Trailer Park off Old Shelbyville Road. "Right now it appears he took his own life."

The man has been identified as Michael Brown, 35. He had been missing for a few days prior to the discovery of his body which was partially hanging from a tree. The teens were walking in the woods early Saturday evening when they walked upon the man’s remains.

"We believe he had been there for about a week," Matheny noted.

Complete findings of the autopsy could take over a month due to lab backlogs and toxicology tests. However, the sheriff says the evidence points to the incident being a suicide.
