TECH-REDI bestows grants at chamber meeting

The Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership meeting turned out to be a boon for two local programs when they received grants totaling $30,000 presented by Susan Elkins, TTU’s vice president of Extended Programs and Regional Development. The grants are provided through TECH-REDI, the Regional Economic Development Institute at Tennessee Tech University.The Chamber’s “100% Graduation - Education is Important” campaign received $5,000 to help spread this message throughout the community, while the county received a $25,000 grant to underwrite Bluegrass Underground, the live music venue staged in the Volcano Room of Cumberland Caverns which is set to be broadcast nationwide on PBS.Elkins said TTU is pleased to be able to promote these kinds of programs in the area.“Our mission supports a special commitment to enriching the lives of people and communities in the Upper Cumberland region,” said Elkins. “Our grant recipients share our same commitment to helping to make the Upper Cumberland a better place to live, work and play.”
