McMinnville resident Tim Stone has been announced as the winner of the Give the Gift of Music 2012 Holiday Contest.Contestants were instructed to share a story about a meaningful music gift (song, album, instrument, music lessons, tickets, etc.) they received during the holidays.Stone won $1,000 for his heart-warming entry telling how his band director, Sam Rickman, encouraged him to pursue other areas in the music field.Stone attended Grundy Senior High School in Grundy, Va. He wrote, “When I was a senior in high school, I was just beginning my musical journey. I was beginning to plunk out chords on a piano, did not know the first thing about playing guitar, and had taught myself to read music from an encyclopedia.
