NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Nashville say a 3-year-old boy has been taken to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the wrist.
Multiple news agencies report that Metro Nashville police say officers were flagged down near Interstate 24 Tuesday evening by the child's father.
The boy was then taken by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The child's father told investigators that his son accidentally shot himself in the wrist after getting a pistol out of his father's backpack at the Glastonbury Woods Apartments.
Officials say the father is a licensed security guard with a handgun carry permit.
The man tried taking his son to the hospital, but decided to ask for help after seeing a police officer on the roadway. .
