COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vandals in Tennessee tagged several cars in a school parking, including that of a black pastor, whose vehicle was spray-painted with a racial slur.
The Commercial Appeal reports Jason Mitchell, the pastor of Perfecting Love Community Church in Memphis, says his vehicle was the only one tagged with a racial slur in the Collierville High School parking lot Sunday night.
Collierville police spokesman Lt. David Townsend says police are investigating the incident, along with a similar incident in a neighborhood near the school. He says the school lot has surveillance cameras.
Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner decried the racist vandalism and offered Mitchell an apology.
Mitchell says the culprits should be charged with a hate crime, and he would like to meet with Joyner and have the mayor denounce white supremacy.
