NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A 19-year-old man is facing felony assault charges after police say he attacked and pistol whipped three Tennessee State University students inside a dorm room.

Metro Nashville Police say Griffin Deshun Cole was arrested early Tuesday on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

An arrest affidavit says police responded to a call of a fight in progress in the dorm. An officer found three students in the lobby who said Cole, along with other suspects, entered their dorm room and began hitting them on the head with a handgun.

The victims were able to leave the dorm room and call police.

It wasn't immediately known what caused the assault.

The victims sustained injuries, but it wasn't immediately known if they were taken to a hospital.

It's unclear if Cole has an attorney.
