CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Some Chattanooga-area kindergarteners have come up with a new name for a bald eagle at a nature center.
Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center director of wildlife Tish Gailmard tells the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/24TFFgc ) that the name Flora Nooga was chosen from among suggestions from dozens of area students.
The eagle was brought to the nature center after being hit by a car in Florida.
The winning name comes from youngsters at John Allen Elementary School in Soddy-Daisy. Kindergarten teacher Kristy Plumlee says her class suggested the name Flora because the bald eagle is from Florida, and Nooga derives from Chattanooga.
A plaque on the fence surrounding the nature center's eagle habitat will be displayed in the students' honor.
