CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police have charged a Clarksville man with trafficking an underage girl for sex.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says in a news release that 34-year-old Michael Scott Helton was arrested last week.

The TBI says Helton allegedly tried to transport a 17-year-old girl for sex in exchange for money at a motel in Clarksville.

Helton remained held Sunday on $55,000 bond on charges of trafficking for a commercial sex act. Jail records didn't indicate whether Helton has an attorney.

The statement says Tennessee child welfare officials are assisting authorities in caring for the girl.
