With Valentine's Day this Saturday, the Southern Standard is ready to spread some love.
Our customer appreciation day, featuring hotdogs and drinks at our office on 105 College Street, is this Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to free food, customers can benefit from heart-warming deals on newspaper subscriptions, including a one-year subscription for only $54. That amounts to just 35 cents an issue.
In conjunction with Valentine's Day, the newspaper held a Cutest Couple Contest where people were encouraged to upload photos of themselves to the Standard website. There were 61 couples who participated.
Winning first place with 384 online votes were Clifford and Jean Reel. It was noted in the online information the Reels are preparing to celebrate their 68th anniversary this year. He is 91 years old, while she is 86.
For winning the Cutest Couple Contest, the Reels get a prize package that includes a gift card to Prater's BBQ, a cupcake maker from Stewart Pharmacy, and a subscription to the Standard.
