Two local residents were among the 64 people indicted as part of a drug sting in neighboring DeKalb County.
Donald “Ricky” Atnip Jr., 29, has been indicted on charges of delivery of Roxicodone (a pain reliever) and sale of Opana (also a pain reliever). He is under $60,000 bond.
Emily Claire Anderson, 24, has been indicted for sale of Suboxone strips (used to taper off drugs). She is under $20,000 bond.
The Natchez Lane couple were among those rounded up recently as part of the four-month-long undercover drug sting conducted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, there were a total of 112 undercover buys conducted between September and December from the 64 defendants.
Sheriff Ray said many of the buys were made at businesses in the Smithville area after his office received numerous complaints about drug trafficking. There were also undercover buys made in drug-free zones such as parks and nearby schools.
The lion’s share of arrests were against Smithville residents, although there were a few from Dowelltown, Murfreesboro and Liberty.
The drugs ran the gamut from methamphetamine and crack cocaine to ecstasy and marijuana. A wide assortment of pills were also a focus of the undercover probe.
