MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. — Eastside Elementary will be inducting three more individuals into its Hall of Fame during the Student Council Banquet on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m.
During the formal-type event, Student Council Officers will be presenting each other with awards. Also, there will be a slide show and dinner.
At the end of the night, two individuals will be inducted as honorary educators and one former student will be inducted as honorary alumnus into the 2014 Hall of Fame.
Jozada Smith will be inducted as an honorary educator. Smith served as a longtime educator for years at Eastside. Her years of service ranged from 1970-2004.
“I was surprised and honored to be informed I was being inducted into the Eastside Hall of Fame,” said Smith. “There have been so many wonderful teachers at Eastside. To be selected from so many was a surprise. It is an honor to be recognized for something that you loved. Helping children learn and hopefully making a difference in young lives is honor enough.”
Also, Fairl Sparkman, who was a longtime educator at Eastside School, will be inducted as an honorary educator. Sparkman retired this past school year.
Abraham Villafuerte, a former student, will be inducted as the honorary alumnus. Villafuerte went to Eastside School for several years and supported the school tremendously during that time. He was, also, the first male president of the student body. He is now in high school.
“I feel it is very important to give recognition to these people who are going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame,” said Jason Gann, Eastside’s Student Council sponsor.
This is the third class of inductees into the Eastside School Hall of Fame. Student Council members began the tradition in 2012.
