The Silver and Gold Band will perform a summer concert at First Baptist Church on June 23 at 3 p.m.
The theme of the concert is “Beautiful Music for a Summer Afternoon”.
The Silver and Gold Band is thought to be the oldest community band in Tennessee, tracing its origins back to the 1800s. Long-time Warren County High School Band Director Michael Chilcutt directs the 35-member band which features brass, woodwind and percussion sections.
“It provides an opportunity for individuals to express their musical talent and to encourage a love of band and music within our community,” Chilcutt said.
The band performs at several special events including patriotic celebrations, festivals, county fairs and Christmas programs. Music performed by the band includes marches, motion picture themes, waltzes, jazz and Latin selections.
The band is always actively looking for new members. They practice on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the old band room at Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School next to the gym.
